The guest speaker that I chose to reflect on is Rebecca Harris. Rebecca Harris was my teams guest speaker, so what better person to reflect on than Ms.Harris. Rebecca Harris is a well known member of the Chatham community as the executive director for the Center for Women's Entrepreneurship. This department is a part of Chatham University's Women's Institute. Rebecca Harris and her assistant Michelle Price came into our Foundations of Business class earlier this semester to talk about starting a business. Ms. Harris is an entrepreneur with thirty-five years of experience. She founded her own business called Harris Consulting which provided professional services to a wide range of nonprofit and private corporate clients. Ms. Harris has also received numerous awards for her dedication and commitment.

During the presentation she talked a lot about risk taking and how to overcome the fear of taking risks. When I did the reading for chapter two there was a section about risk taking that corresponded with what Ms. Harris said in her presentation. In the book it stated that a risk taker is someone who is working under a degree of uncertainty and they cannot know the outcomes of many of the decisions that they have to make (Collins). Ms. Harris said that being a risk taker is one of the hardest parts about being an entrepreneur, but although the hardest part, it can be the most rewarding. In the second chapter in the book I also learned about entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial traits. The definition of an entrepreneur is someone who identifies a business opportunity and assumes the risk of creating and running a business to take advantage of it (Collins). During the presentation that Ms. Harris gave she talked about being an entrepreneur and the traits that she possess to be one. The traits that Ms.Harris stated and the book also stated are being an innovator and a risk taker.

The article that I read was from Think with Google and the title was Small Businesses, big impact: 8 lessons from our Economic Impact Report. In the article it talks about the concept of expanding your definition of creativity. During Ms. Harris's presentation she talked about the creative aspect of owning your own business. She said that you have to be always wiling to come up with new ideas and your creativity needs to always be in full gear.  In the article it says you need to apply your creativity to all aspects of your business for it to thrive. This statement is correct because consumer tastes and preferences are always changing and creativity always has to be changing to stay up to date with the consumers needs.
